Ever wondered how your clinic compares to others? How much others charge? How many sessions they average? Where their referrals come from? How much they’re paying for consumables?
Up until now, these questions have just brought estimates and rumours. But no facts. The Private Practice Barometer brings an end to that. This is the first national survey of private MSK clinics in the UK. It’s collected anonymised data from physiotherapy clinics, osteopathy clinics, chiropractic clinics, podiatry clinics, sports injury clinics, and all other MSK healthcare providers to help us truly understand the private sector.

Who's Behind This?
This project is created and managed by HMDG, the UK’s leading marketing and business strategy agency for MSK clinics.
We work with physiotherapy clinics, chiropractic clinics, osteopathy practices, and multidisciplinary private MSK providers across the UK. We created this survey because the questions our clients ask – about fees, staff, and patient numbers – have never had reliable answers.
The results are being shared with all contributors, for the benefit of the entire private MSK sector.

Who is this survey for?
Clinic owners, practice managers, and senior clinicians working in private MSK care, including physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, sports rehab, and related disciplines. Whether you’re a solo practitioner or running multiple locations, your input is valuable.
What will I get for signing up?
You’ll receive the full results report with national trends, regional comparisons, and clinic-type breakdowns.
Is the survey anonymous?
Yes. We haven’t collected names, addresses, or patient data. No one will be able to identify specific clinics in the results. All responses are anonymised and reported in aggregate.
What kind of questions have you asked?
We ask about your clinic’s fees, staffing, patient volumes, marketing channels, referral sources, rebooking rates, and growth patterns. Nothing clinical. Nothing intrusive.
Will the data be sold or used for marketing?
No. We will never sell, share, or use your data for marketing. We don’t even ask for your contact details unless you choose to receive the results by email.

HMDG is the UK’s leading marketing agency for private MSK clinics. We work with hundreds of clinics and built this survey to fill a gap we see every day.
Why does this matter?
Right now, there is no reliable source of data on how private MSK clinics operate. Everyone is guessing. This survey will set a benchmark for pricing, performance, and strategy across the whole sector.

Yes, a public version of the results will be available.

Data & Privacy
Providing your email to receive the results is completely separate from the survey submissions. If you have completed the survey, there is no way for us to connect your contact details with your survey responses. Regardless of whether you’ve completed the survey or you’re just signing up for the results, we won’t spam you, and your names and email addresses won’t be shared with any commercial partners.

Signing up to receive your own copy of the results is entirely independent of the survey submissions. If you have completed the survey, there is no way of us linking the two together.
