Kendal Physio

Kendal Physio has been around for over 25 years. Richard, a previous employee of the business, completed a successful management buyout to take the reins and wanted to push the business forward. Having run the business for a number of years, lots of staff, equipment, and techniques had changed, so it was important to reflect that in the content we produced.

What Did We Do?

Kendal Physio, as its name suggests, is situated in beautiful Cumbria, on the boundary of the Lake District National Park. This made capturing beautiful location shots a breeze! Richard’s brief was to advertise the multiple services they offer, with a huge multifunctional space offering classes and multiple treatments simultaneously. We were spoilt for choice on where to film. Kendal Physio feels less like a physio and more like a social club, judging by all the smiling faces. We needed that to come across in the content as it is a main attraction for new patients.

Often, the lead physio or owner is the only one confident to speak on camera, but credit to Richard; he trusted his staff members to discuss their specialisms on camera. With most shoots, there is a range of comfort levels on camera, so we were able to explain to the staff members that we shoot on two cameras. This makes it easy to blend their answers together, as well as shooting lots of beautiful shots of the treatments to hide any pauses or mistakes. At the end of that process, they can come away with a confident, knowledgeable, and beautiful video describing a service they offer.

Unfortunately, a model that the clinic had arranged didn’t show up to be featured in the banner video. We quickly identified that we would need to draft an existing patient who was in the current Pilates class to feature in the video. After a brief chat with Richard, we identified who of the group is a target customer. We then approached the gentleman after the class, who was keen to help and saved any potential embarrassment on the side of the clinic should he have disagreed. The no-show was a blessing in disguise as the gentleman who featured in the video was very comfortable on camera, and his passion for the clinic shone through.

How did we do it?

We were not tight for space in the clinic, but that did pose the challenge of making sure we captured everything. With so much going on and many technologies and techniques to film, we had to be very efficient with our time. Thankfully, we had a thorough discussion with Richard prior to the shoot and were aware of how many shots we needed to capture.

With the tight timeline on our minds, we brought multiple cameras so that each could be assigned a particular job, saving switching time between interviews and capturing shots of real-life action. On every shoot, you are always looking to capture a smile or emotion that gives a sense of what it is like to be a patient at the clinic. With tight deadlines, it is harder to capture those natural moments. Our solution is to keep the cameras rolling so as not to miss a smile or a laugh. This did create a lot of footage to sift through in the edit, but it was worth it for the results. With large open plan rooms, lighting was a breeze; however, we did need to utilise mobile lights to quickly transition from room to room and not miss any of the action.

What Were The Results?​

With an extended full-day shoot and five edit days, we were able to achieve:

Banner Video: This featured the gentleman who jumped in last minute, enabling us to achieve a video demonstrating where the clinic is located and all the facilities on offer, giving their webpage a new wow factor.

About Us: With a lot of history, it was important to Richard to show how far the clinic has come and why they incorporate so many treatments and techniques.

8 x Service Explainers: With so many services on offer, we wanted to make sure we not only explained them in easy-to-understand terms but also showed exactly what they look like, helping to set them apart from their competitors.

300 Photos Including Headshots: With so many staff, we made sure to have an up-to-date headshot showing them at their best, as well as multiple photos for all the services on offer. The web team was spoilt for choice when adding to the new and improved website.
